MVR vertical roller mill for grinding cement
Gebr. Pfeiffer wins Adani Enterprises Ltd., one of the largest groups in India, as a new customer
Adani, a large company based in Ahmedabad in the state of Gujarat, will in future supply the market in western India with high-quality cement from a Pfeiffer MVR mill through its subsidiary Adani Cement Industries Ltd.
A grinding plant for 165 t/h of fly ash-pozzolan mixed cement is to be built in the industrial region of Dahej in Gujarat. It will be equipped with an MVR 3750 C-4 with integrated high‑efficiency classifier SLS 4000 VC and a drive with a rated power of 3,090 kW.
For the customer, the active redundancy of the four grinding rollers of the MVR mill was a key decision factor. This means that in the event of planned maintenance work, or even in the event of an unplanned incident at one of the grinding rollers, the mill can continue to operate with a reduced number of grinding rollers. Especially for a market newcomer, it is essential to be able to meet the demand of its new customers at any time. With other grinding systems that do not have the feature of active redundancy of the grinding rollers, there would be a complete production stop.
Furthermore, a Pfeiffer grinding plant has a significantly better eco-balance than competitor's grinding plants. Not only can OPC be ground with a gypsum component in the MVR mill, but the possibility of grinding at the same time clinker and aggregates such as granulated blast-furnace slag, a waste product from iron production, or fly ash, a waste product from power generation with coal, open up possibilities to significantly improve the CO2 balance of the cement produced.
Up to now, dry fly ash directly from the power plant has generally been used in India for addition to cement. However, there are also large deposits of fly ash, which are to be mined in the future for environmental reasons. This material, also called pond ash, has a high moisture content because it is stored outdoors. Because in the MVR mill the material is not only ground, but simultaneously dried and classified with process gases, the customer has the possibility to dry the moist aggregates directly. No upstream drying unit is necessary, as is the case with competitor systems.
Cements with a very high fineness can be classified using the high-efficiency classifier of the SLS-VC series, which has been further optimised in terms of design and process technology. These cements with very good strength development are increasingly in demand on the market, also in India.
For this order, Gebr. Pfeiffer (India) Pvt. Ltd. acts as general contractor, i.e. the Indian subsidiary of Gebr. Pfeiffer provides the entire plant engineering, supplies most of the purchased components and has the classifier and a large part of the mill manufactured in India. Only the core components of the mill, such as the grinding rollers, the suspension system and the gearbox of the mill drive will be supplied from Europe.
The commissioning of the new mill is planned for the period before the rainy season in summer 2023.
